The Medicine Hat and District Women's Shelter Society has opened an outreach office to better serve the community. This office is open to the public and is the centre for connection to the community. Services include counselling to both men and women in order to prevent family violence. I am pleased to have a permanent collection of my photographs which have been donated by myself and my husband Gerald for this new office.
Montage of portrait with crocus.
Portrait of Molly with montage of Peacock and feathers. The peacock shot was taken in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, B.C.
Image shot in Saskatchewan of an abandoned school. The alphabet is a copy of the blackboard inside the building. Fiona my granddaughter was added in PhotoShop.
This tender image of a cowboy with his child was shot at a branding at the Clark Ranch in Medicine Hat. The image was converted to Black and white except for the child's cap.
One of my edgier images is a combination of a shot of an abandoned house interior from the Alberta prairies and a homeless panhandler named Wayne who I have befriended on a downtown Victoria Street. He collects enough money each day to feed a fellow street person. I sent him a copy of the image by e-mail and he was very pleased with it.
This still life image was taken in my studio from Japanese Peonies I grew in my garden. They are the original single petal flowers that were used to hybrid the more common peony grown now.
This montage is of Kumiko with her beautiful violin. It is montaged with an aquarium of goldfish. I especially liked the goldfish that looks like it is swimming through her hair.
This montage is from my Kenyan safari which I went on in 2012. The African women was shot at a wedding at my hotel in Nairobi. The cheetah was shot on safari as was the scene with wildebeest and zebras. I like the single acacia tree.
This 4x6 foot image was printed on vinyl. It is from my exhibition "Birds in Paris" that was held at the "Esplanade" gallery in Medicine Hat in 2012. The series features birds together with iconic scenes shot in Paris. They have been montaged , converted to sepia and made to look like old photographs.
Burrowing Owls are very hard to find and protected as an endangered species. I was lucky to find these owls in a field outside of Medicine Hat. They only returned for two seasons and are no longer there.
This was the first of the series. The crow was shot in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria. The series ended up to be 32 images and is a featured gallery on this website.
Bull rider from Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede rodeo. I especially liked the cowboys, young and old behind the chutes.
These brave cowboys help the bull rider get away from the bull after they have fallen or been thrown off the bull. They must stay on 8 seconds to score points and the bull is also scored on his performance. The bullfighter on the left retired and this was his last rodeo.
This cowboy has been thrown off his bucking bronco . He is competing in the "saddle bronc" category.
This award-winning image is one of my best rodeo shots. The cowboy leaves his horse and twists the steer onto it's back. The winner completes this feat in the shortest time.
This is a montage of cowboy boots which was hanging on the wall at the Historic Reesor Ranch in the Cypress Hills of Alberta and a chuckwagon team coming over the finish line.
The chuckwagon races are held every year in Medicine Hat and the best drivers come to entertain and win points towards the National Finals. Caught this driver coming around the barrels and losing his cowboy hat.
Chuckwagons coming to the finish line. The outriders are part of the team and have to be close to their chucks or they are deducted points. The two outriders hold the horses at the start of the race and one of them throws a barrel into the back of the chuckwagon. First one over the finish line wins if they don't have any points deducted for late outriders or knocking over the barrels they have to go around at the beginning of the race.
This mare and colt were shot near the Historic Reesor Ranch in the Cypress Hills.
Abandoned car in field next to Historic Reesor Ranch.
This image along with 19 others from the Victoria Camera Club won the Nature's Best Magazine award for "World's Best Camera Club" award. Shot in the winter in Police Point Park in Medicine Hat. I was taking bird shots when I happened to notice this wild rabbit hunkered down in the snow trying to stay warm.
Found at Police Point in the Spring.
This image was shot in Saskatchewan while on a day trip with the Medicine Hat Photography Club. The male pronghorn antelope watches over his harem of females.
Shot outside the Historic Reesor Ranch. These two horses were inseparable. One of my favourite images.
Shot in Kin Coulee Park. This beautiful bird was eating the berries beside him.
This shy songbird was shot on a trip with my friend Darren McKenna. Darren is an expert bird whisperer and has taught me a great deal about bird photography.
Another great bird portrait shot with Darren. Very tiny bird landed on the perch we set up for him.
This lovely bird sounds like a cat. Quite curious and fairly easy to shoot.
This image was shot in my backyard. It took 2 weeks to get this shot. The photograph won the Victoria Camera Club Advanced Nature competition first prize at their year end competition.
Vocal tiny bird shot in Police Point Park.
Young female Red-winged Blackbird shot at the Medicine Hat College pond. I like the little seed in it's beak as it feeds of the cattails.
Sparrow catches the sunlight as it looks for food in the snow. Shot in Police Point Park in Medicine Hat.
This bird is trying to stay warm as he sits on a hoar frost limb in Police Point Park.
Shot on a calm day in the pond at Medicine Hat College.
Shot on a hay bale in the countryside outside of Medicine Hat.
Shot one summer day in the creek at Kin Coulee Park in Medicine Hat. He has caught a small fish after waiting about 20 minutes.
Found this bird in Strathcona Park, Medicine Hat.
